Summer is underway and it can pass by in a blur of sticky ices, sweaty kids, changing swimming clothes, laundry, and never-ending hot days. Whether you are spending your summer in the country or the city you can have a wonderful time and create lasting memories with the right mindset and a fun to-do list. 

Here's how to make the most out of your summer while you're upstate or looking for a day trip!


1. Go Boating on a Lake

The Catskills is home to many stunning lakes that you can experience first-hand. Rent a pontoon boat, speed boat, or jet ski. Be sure to call and book in advance to ensure availability.

2. Take A Hike

When in the mountains you gotta take full advantage and go for an incredible hike. There are many to choose from depending on trail difficulty and ages. Be sure to bring your best hiking sneakers, snack bars, and some water. 

Neversink Waterfall Hike:

A strenuous yet exhilarating hike with lots of ups and downs that ends in amazing waterfalls. Bring some snacks to enjoy at the waterfall, but make sure you take your trash with you. Be sure to download the map to reference as cell service is not available on the trail. 



Sam's Point in Minnewaska State Park:

There is so much to explore in the magnificent 5,000 acres of Minnewaska State Park, from ice caves to Lake Maratanza, to the Verkeerder Kill Falls waterfalls. Parking availability is limited in this area, be sure to reserve a spot before you go (up to 2 weeks in advance!) here.

3. Build Some Memories at Legoland

From the lego-obsessed people, to thrill-seekers, young families, teenagers and everyone in between, a day (or 2!) spent in Legoland will be the highlight of their summer. There are super entertaining family shows, adorable rides for the little ones, an epic dragon coaster, a fabulous water splash pad area to cool down in, and lots more. Not to mention MINILAND USA, Lego sculptures of miniature world landmarks to be amazed by, complete with the tiniest details.

4. Go On Down To The Farm

 Feed the animals, ride a horse, or pick your own fruit and veggies this summer!

Kelders Farm

A fun, classic trip in upstate NY is the beautiful Kelder's Farm. Pick blueberries, flowers, veggies, herbs and more. Pet and feed the animals, jump on the giant trampoline cushion, shoot potatoes from the spud gun and lots more. They even carry Cholov Yisroel ice cream!

Breezeyway Farm

A family-owned petting zoo right down the road from Walmart on Anawana Lake Rd,  this hidden gem is a great way to spend a Sunday. Feed the farm animals or the ducks on the lake, or go for a pony ride. Share the gift of nature with your family! Kosher concession stand included.

Family Fun Farm

Ok this is less of an actual farm and more of an epic outdoor summer experience. From bumper boats, laser tag, and the jumping pillow, to giant slide, petting zoo, and go karting, you can really be busy here all day! Kosher concession stand included.

5. Bike The Rail Trail In Hurleyville

No bike, no problem! Rent a bike from the friendly people over at Fortress Bikes and take yourselves out for a ride through the beautiful railroad turned trail path in Hurleyville. Enjoy the gorgeous scenery as you pass a lake, pond, forest, and mountainside.

6. Eat Out On The Lake in Loch Sheldrake 

Incredible food with a serene view on the lakeside or enjoy it with an epic boating experience! Choose from the tasty offerings of Sushi Tokyo, healthy and delicious juices, smoothies, and acai bowls from Greenlips or new for summer 2004 is an exciting new meat restaurant Ess 'n Boat! 7. Get A Boozy Scoop At Boozery at 42 Kitz Road

8. Have A Slice With a Side of Arcades At The New Liberty Pizza in Monticello

A new, giant Liberty Pizza just opened in Monticello with huge seating area which can seat over 200 people. A sushi bar, pasta bar, and ice cream salon complete the delicious offerings - but we think the main attraction is the awesome game room that kids will absolutely love!

9. Shop Til You Drop At Mountain Square

There's something for everyone at Mountain Square! 10. Go Tubing On The Delaware River in Narrowsburg

Did you know the Delaware river goes through Upstate New York? Take advantage of its natural beauty and strength with a rafting adventure! Rent a tube, raft, kayak or canoe from Lander's and you'll have a ball floating down the river, especially at some of the rockier areas! But don't worry the rapids never get too intense. You'll get picked up at the end of your river adventure and brought back to their parking lot. Be sure to call ahead for availability!
