Amazon Takes on Temu and Shein with New International Bargain Marketplace

06/26/24 04:24 pm

Amazon plans to introduce a new section on its shopping site dedicated to affordable items that will be shipped directly to overseas customers from warehouses in China. This highlights Amazon's strategic move to compete with popular bargain sites like Temu and Shein.

The new marketplace aims to provide a cost-effective shopping experience for consumers looking for budget-friendly products.

According to slides presented to Chinese sellers, the new section will feature a wide range of unbranded fashion, home goods, and daily necessities. This expansion is Amazon's most aggressive attempt to capture the growing market of bargain hunters who are increasingly turning to alternative shopping platforms. By focusing on unbranded items, Amazon hopes to attract a diverse customer base seeking value over brand recognition.

The products in this new marketplace will be delivered to customers within 9 to 11 days, offering a relatively quick turnaround for international shipping. This delivery promise is designed to enhance customer satisfaction and compete with the efficient logistics of other bargain sites.

Amazon will start accepting Chinese sellers in the summer and begin accepting their inventory in the fall.
